The queen of Sheba's endless empire demands the company of a man every night. For the sumptuous imperial chambers, guarded by a guard of eunuchs, different characters pass successively: the astrologer, the spice maker, the caravan guide, the hermit, the pimp, the foreign prince, the soldier, the doctor... . representatives, in short, of the various estates that make up their kingdoms, and on the work and the chimeras of those who sustain themselves and spread themselves for centuries. These men speak of their trades, of what they have done during their lives. A scribe registers their parliaments in clay tiles. The content of these tiles constitutes the essential text of this account.
