Jewish Life, portraits of the past
Jewish Life, retrats del passat
INFORMATION
Jewish Life, portraits of the past is a journey through time that moves by the light of both night and day to show, through music, the different situations the Jewish community have suffered throughout history. Jewish Life, portraits of the past aims to demonstrate the triple relationship between music, history and culture, placing us at a point of time and space in a cultural community. Last year saw the 70th anniversary of one of the most catastrophic events of the 20th century: the Holocaust, a genocide which killed six million Jews during World War II. Using this as a starting point, we shaped a project, situating ourselves in one of the richest and most diverse cultural communities, the Jewish. Jewish music is pure feeling, melancholy with a good deal of history written into its songs, which are a reflection of everyday life, the simplicity of the people, the joy of their traditional celebrations and laments of deep sorrow. To sum up: music that laughs and cries at the same time.
