Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics

The Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics is an organization created by the Government of the Balearic Islands for the promotion of the language and culture of the Balearic Islands.

The Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics, through our Culture department, has as strategic objectives the consolidation of the Balearic islands as a structured cultural market, the promotion of the islands' music, perfoming arts, literature and visual arts by means of grants, international actions under the BCULTURE brand, through TALENTIB (artistic networks among the artists and venues on the islands of the archipelago) and formative seminars in cultural affairs.

The language department offers to the citizens of the Balearic islands various possibilities to learn the Catalan language: face-to-face, as well as online courses, workshops for youngsters, Catalan centres, etc.

The publications department is in charge of the the Local Studies Conference, organised by the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics, under the name Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics, since 1982, and the Estudis Baleàrics journal.

Promotion Overseas

The Institut de la Llengua i la Cultura de les Illes Balears coordinates, alone or in partnership with the Direcció General de Cultura, the Institut Ramon Llull or the Institut Català d'Empreses Culturals, the institutional presence of the Balearic Islands in strategic events for the promotion of our culture overseas. We support creators and cultural enterprises through subsidies that cover part of the travelling expenses, as well as the part of the expenses related to promotion materials.

We also intervene by helping fairs to contact professionals that could be of their interest. Similarly, in the case of professionals that cannot attend the fair personally, the Institut de la Llengua i la Cultura de les Illes Balears may distribute promotional materials provided by the professionals and establish contact with agents, artists and producers from elsewhere in their name, as long as the material is handed to the IEB, along with a written authorisation.

BCulture

BCulture is the brand that the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics uses for the promotion of the culture of the Balearic Islands overseas. On the one hand, it works as a catalogue for artists and works from the Balearics. On the other hand, it also offers a line of grants to support the movement of artists when they perform outside their place of residence. Furthermore, the Institut aims to increase the presence of Balearic artists and shows in venues and festivals outside of the islands, through the signature of agreements.

Catalan Language

The Language Area organizes Catalan courses at all levels, addressed to the general adult public(over 16 years old). Every year, the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics offers two course periods: October-January and February-May. We also offer intensive courses over the Summer months. We also organize Catalan language crash courses aimed at newly arrived residents.

We also offer a network of Catalan Language centres, which are spaces, in which the general adult public is provided with self-learning materials and resources, but they also function as a cultural and linguistic dynamization centre. Currently there are Catalan Centres in Ciutadella, Ibiza, Inca and Palma.

Fira B!

Fira B! is the professional trade show of music and performing arts of the Balearic Islands. It has as its main goal to disseminate the latest and more representative projects of the artists of the islands, in the fields of performing arts and music, through a programme addressed to producers, artists and the general public.
