Baltasar Porcel

An essential figure of the Mediterranean narrative of the second half of the 20th century, Baltasar Porcel once stated that he felt like an architect who, book after book, raises a big scale model, an alternative world to the world. A long-distance creator of absolute will, Porcel put his exuberant, plastic and abstract style to service this aim. The author takes the reader from Mallorca to Africa, and from there to Barcelona because contemplation is not an option: history is something to be conquered. Individualistic, solar and adventurous, his literature bursts out with the power of an idea or a brutal act, and it consolidates itself before the reader as one of the most sensual and ambitious projects in the history of Catalan literature.
