Biel Capllonch

  • (Palma, 1964)

The photographer Biel Capllonch (Palma, Mallorca, 1964) has created the image, with the creative director Sergi Caballero and for almost two decades, of the electronic music festival Sónar. Capllonch has worked in fashion and advertising, is the author of magnetic and mysterious images. His photographs are snapshots full of irony, with a theatrical and imaginative staging, and a conceptual vision. He has worked for large companies such as, among many others, Banco de Sabadell, Etnia, Camper, Sybilla, Ikea, Panasonic, Martini, Damm, Nike or Vueling.

He studied Fine Arts in Barcelona. He has his studio in the Catalan capital. He collaborates with several media. His work has been presented in individual and collective exhibitions, nationally and internationally. Marked by the aesthetics of Mapplethorpe, he discovered many of the great American photographers. He approaches the world of Duane Michals, and the complexity of the filmmakers Buñuel and Antonioni. The careful illumination of Javier Vallhonrat's advertising work is another of his visual references. At the end of the 90's, in Barcelona, he assisted the great artist Jeff Wall, from whom he discovered the pictorial sense of photography, the construction of scenarios and a perfectionist sense of the photographer's work.
