It began in the Capella Davídica, the choir of the cathedral of Ciutadella. Since his first performance at the Scala di Milano in 1980, with the opera Falstaff, he has not stopped developing an exemplary, prolific and prestigious career, which has allowed him to perform for theatres and operas all over the world: Vienna, London, Paris, Hamburg, Munich, Zurich, the Gran Teatro del Liceo, the Zarzuela of Madrid, Rome, Florence, the Fenice of Venice, Bologna, Parma, Verona, Chicago, Dallas, Washington, San Diego, San Francisco, the Metropolitan of New York, where he has performed regularly since 1983.

In addition, he has recorded records with the best orchestras in the world.

In 2000, he was named Doctor Honoris Causa by the Universitat de les Illes Balears.
