Marta Fofi

  • (Gubbio (PG, Itàlia), 05/01/1969)

Marta Fofi is an Italian artist and designer who lives and works in Ibiza. She uses strong and cheerful colours to define her eclectic style which, among other things, speaks of identity with an ironic touch. She likes to think that people enjoy looking at her work of art and that they share the same pleasure she experiences in creating it. She creates with the aim of making people smile. Her inspiration comes from everyday life, travel and the relaxed atmosphere of her Ibiza home. She likes to play and her work is a reminder that we should not take ourselves too seriously and that, in order to create our own freedom, we must seriously play the game. She translates her illustrations into products she sells in her online shop and in design and craft markets. She has participated in numerous national and international art exhibitions and enjoys collaborating with other artists.

Marta Fofi's artistic studies began at the Academy of Costumes and Fashion in Rome, specializing in Jewelry Design in 1995. In 1996, she completed a Master in Metallic Arts at Pietrarubbia, under the direction of Arnaldo Pomodoro. This three-month experience greatly influenced her feelings of confrontation and collaboration that can only be achieved by spending time with other artists. Shortly thereafter, however, her rational and practical aspects took over and she began working as a freelance designer in several goldsmith's workshops in Arezzo. After several years, her restless nature led her back on a new journey as she searched for that part of her that she had not yet discovered and that her birthplace hindered.

She came to Ibiza by chance in 2000 and worked on several occasional jobs. At the same time, the island's creative atmosphere inspired her and she began experimenting with unconventional materials, such as textiles along with acrylic paints. In 2004, she produced her own line of bags and T-shirts with themes taken from her paintings and began selling them in the island's prolific hippy markets. In 2012, she took a "textile sketchbook" course with American artist Dorothy Caldwell, once again confronting other artists, which led her to devote herself entirely to her own artistic production. In 2014, she took a two-week course in Textile Printing Techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, Poland and deepened these techniques in 2015 at the University of the Arts in London.
