Uc

  • (1974)

In 1974, Joan Mirenu, Victorí Planells and Isidor Marí published the record UC cançons d'Eivissa; it was the consolidation of the Ibizan voices as part of the Nova Cançó movement. The record also shaped UC as a band. Four years later, the group decided to part ways. In 1985, as a request from the Institut d'Estudis Eivissencs, they reunite for two concerts to commemorate the 750th anniversary of the Catalan conquest of Ibiza and Formentera.

After that, Joan and Victorí continue the project, that is still alive 42 years later. They have been releasing records and performing live in Catalonia, Valencia, Mallorca, Minorca, French Catalonia, Madrid, Germany, Belgium... The band has always incorporated traditional songs and romances to their repertoire, as well as setting to music the works by Ibizan poets. Among their musical adaptations, one of the hightlights is their work on poems by Marià Villangómez. UC vindicates the roots that constitute the Ibizan as people: their own language, culture, a respect for their homeland and the dignification of the popular and traditional songs and music as a collective expression of Ibiza.
