Urtain

Urtain is a Mallorcan rock band formed in 2007 by two former members of the now extinct Mineralwater band, who released three power-pop albums in the late nineties with remarkable success within the independent state scene. After their dissolution and a period of reflection, Julio Molina (vocals and guitar) and Gabi Marcos (drums), together with Toni Trobat (bass) and Lluís Matas (guitar) decided to form Urtain at the beginning of 2007 and signed for their record debut with the independent record label Lucinda/Subterfuge Records.

Their first album, Canciones Selectas en Conserva, brings together twelve timeless pop songs, without complexes, in Spanish. They perform throughout the country in cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Palma and Valencia. His single ¨Calamar¨ plays in national programmes and is very well received by critics and independent audiences. In mid-2009 they start working on their second album and in 2010 they recruit a new member, Pep Aguió, in charge of the keyboards. They decide to record it in Barcelona at the studios of ¨Lichis¨, of La Cabra Mecánica. Important musicians like Pepo López (Quique González's guitarist), Marc Gay (Delafé and Blue Flowers trumpet player) or Julián Kanevsky (Andrés Calamaro's guitarist) collaborate in it. From these recording sessions comes to light Más todavía difícil, an album that, after breaking with their label due to contractual disagreement, is finally self-published. Once again they return to the state scene and present it in various cities, with greater success in terms of criticism than the previous one, but suffer the circumstance of not being covered by a record label; to this is added the difficulty of residing on an island and the logistical problems it causes. In 2012 Lluís Matas (guitar) decides to leave the band for personal reasons, but despite this they decide to participate in the compilation tribute to the pop bands of the Movida mallorquina de los 80, Mallorca Nochentas, with a version of the classic Los Malditos, ¨Atrapado at ciudad¨.

After a period of reflection in 2014 they begin to record their next work, this time in EP format, Un domingo cualquiera, with which they perform various concerts presenting it in different formats. They perform some very important concerts with artists such as Fito and Fitipaldis or Burning, as guests on their latest visits to Mallorca.

In 2016 they returned to the project and decided to start working on the new record. From this moment on, the well-known guitarist Iván Tobiass (ex-component of ex-Crocodiles or Pistones) joins the band, after having collaborated with Urtain in the tributes paid to Neil Young and the late David Bowie, and confirming the symbiosis and chemistry between them. Recently his fourth album, Manual de supervivencia para Ilustres Decadentes (Survival Manual for Decadent Illustrates), has been published by the Barcelona label Flor y Nata Records and the Mallorcan label Espora Records, in which they count as a guest on one of the tracks with Ariel Rot himself.
