El botxí

INFORMATION

Florencio Fuentes Estébanez executed Pedro Tudurí Vidal in Palma on the 21st of February 1951 for murdering three people. Pilar Prades, known as the poisoner of Valencia, was the last woman executed in Spain. Both using garrotte strangulation. José Luis García Berlanga and Rafael Azcona used these executions to create their masterpiece El verdugo (1963). El botxí is a monologue that discovers those men who executed as a way of living. How did they do it? Why? Did they speak to the condemned? What did they say? What did they think? What did they feel? Many other unimaginable questions. An hour to understand what went through the executor’s mind just a second before turning the lever.
