Glissando Big Band

The Glissando Big Band is a jazz ensemble formed in May 2011 by 18 musicians, one of the first stable formations of the kind in Mallorca. Since its inception, the band has performed all over the island, with some remarkable concerts, as the ones the band shared with Andrea Motis and Joan Chamorro (7 and 8 September 2012) as part of the Alcudia Jazz Festival and the festival "Sent el patrimoni IV" in Artà or the concert held on 11 January 2014 at the Teatre de Lloseta along with the great trumpeter David Pastor (director of the Original Jazz Orchestra of the Taller de Músics de Barcelona), who has recently received the Enderock 2014 award for best jazz soloist. In the style of the North American swing orchestras of the 30's, the ensemble consists of five saxophones (two high, two tenors and a baritone), four trombones (three tenors and one bass), four trumpets, rhythm section (bass, guitar, piano and drums) and singer.

Glissando's repertoire is primarily based on the swing style, without neglecting others, such as bossa-nova. Among the songs that the band performs regularly are classics of the Count Basie Big Band, such as "It's oh so nice" or "Basie Straight Ahead", the Buddy Rich Big Band, such as "Big Swing Face" or "Basically Blues", famous swing themes, as "It don't mean a thing" or "Don't get around much anymore", to bossa nova songs, such as "Recórdame".
